The global shift to clean energy is transforming how we generate, store and distribute power. At SMEC, we deliver expert engineering for complex renewable energy systems, integrating storage, transmission, and clean energy technology globally. With more than 70 years’ of infrastructure experience we accelerate practical and innovative energy transition solutions across the ecosystem.

Engineering

The transition to renewable energy is shaped by local context — land conditions, regulatory frameworks, cultural values, grid maturity and market priorities. SMEC teams are on the ground in the regions we serve, ensuring solutions reflect real-world conditions and stakeholder needs.

Our approach emphasises:

    • Collaboration with landholders, communities and government
    • Climate-responsive for regenerative futures
    • Value-engineering for long-term asset performance
    • Clear governance and approvals pathways
    • Technical excellence supported by digital engineering tools

This is how we reduce delivery risk, accelerate implementation and ensure every solution is resilient and future-ready.

Systems

Our experience spans both utility-scale and distributed energy systems. In Australia, SMEC contributed to the Australia-Asia PowerLink, integrating 17–20 GWp of solar generation and up to 42 GWh of battery storage through a 4,200 km subsea HVDC link. In Papua New Guinea, our Kuat I Hydropower feasibility study explored renewable baseload alternatives to diesel, improving regional energy access. Across South Asia, we’ve supported national transmission planning and grid-integration studies, enabling renewable penetration at scale.

People
