University of Cape Town rooftop solar photovoltaic systems, South Africa
SMEC South Africa’s Power & Energy function is working with the University of Cape Town (UCT) to phase in photovoltaic systems across 30 of its main and allied campus buildings. Ranked in the top 2% of universities globally, UCT houses a multicultural community of around 5,000 academic, professional, administrative and service staff, as well as some 29,000 students who come from over 100 countries.

Northern COll
Northern Collector Tunnel, Kenya
The Northern Collector Tunnel is a critical infrastructure project to improve water supply to Nairobi and surrounding areas. The World Bank-funded project comprised Kenya’s longest tunnel, designed to harvest flood water flows from three rivers in Murang’a County into the existing water supply infrastructure at Ndakaini dam, the main water source for Kenya’s Capital, Nairobi. Prior to the project, the estimated water deficit in Nairobi City was 125,000m3/day.

Water and Sanitation Services in eThekwini Municipality (Phase 3)
eThekwini Municipality, the largest city in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Province, is home to over 3.5-million people and approximately 200,000 informal households, some of which fall within the poorest communities in South Africa. Many of the informal settlements within eThekwini have little or no access to piped potable water and ablution facilities, and as a result, experience adverse health conditions.

Sydney Gateway
Since opening in September 2024, about 50,000 motorists have been using Sydney Gateway daily. This has resulted in a 15% reduction in traffic in Mascot, with most motorist experience reduced journey times by up to 22 minutes when connecting from the Rozelle Interchange to Sydney Airport.
