Supporting the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), SMEC has completed the detailed design of a new Bowen Road Bridge across the Ross River as part of the third stage in the total project (TCR-3).

Townsville Connection Road is a state-controlled road between the Townsville CBD and the Bruce Highway in Queensland, serving a major urban arterial road that carries around 24,000 vehicles daily.

Approximately a 2km section of this road is currently being upgraded to improve safety, capacity, and traffic flow for motorists, bike riders, and pedestrians.

Supporting the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), SMEC has completed the detailed design of a new Bowen Road Bridge across the Ross River as part of the third stage in the total project (TCR-3).

The new, long concrete bridge is situated upstream of the existing bridge and consists of two lanes with a shared path in a tidal part of the Ross River. During the detailed design, SMEC has worked closely with TMR to ensure that interfaces between other project stages and the multi-engineering disciplines (environmental, hydraulic, geotechnical, structural, civil, etc) were efficiently managed and controlled.

Once completed Townsville Connection Road will facilitate community access to vital services, enhance road network connectivity, and support the future growth of Townsville.
