Director
John Anderson graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 1993 and began his career with Sir Alexander GIBB in the UK before moving to South Africa in 1995.
He joined Vela VKE (now SMEC) in 2002, specialising in bridge design and completing his MSc in Structures at UCT in 2005. Appointed Director in 2012, he has led major projects including the Gautrain Viaducts and Stations, the Msikaba River Bridge, and the award-winning Sydney Metro Cable Stayed Bridge.
Passionate about urban design, he promotes integrating creativity with engineering excellence to shape high-quality public spaces. Since 2017, John has led Surbana Jurong Group’s operations in Africa, the Middle East and Pakistan.
