SMEC is proud to have been appointed to deliver planning and detailed design services for a safety upgrade on the Bruce Highway between Maryborough and Gin Gin, part of the Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program (BHTSP), jointly funded by the Australian Government and the Queensland Government.

SMEC’s scope includes strategic planning, detailed design, and digital engineering services to support wide centre line treatments, intersection upgrades, pavement strengthening, heavy vehicle rest areas, and enhanced safety measures.

This win builds on SMEC’s strong track record in Queensland, where we’ve made key contributions to Bruce Highway projects including designing Cooroy to Curra (Section C), Tiaro Bypass, Gairloch Floodway, North Ingham Safety Package, Rockhampton Ring Road, and Caboolture to Steve Irwin Way. Across these projects, our teams have applied advanced digital tools and collaborative design approaches.

Design work has already commenced with our team undertaking initial site investigations, scope identification and deficiency assessments along the length of the project corridor. This is being delivered concurrently with accelerated detailed design for several packages.

Our project team is well-positioned and prepared to respond to evolving priorities as the program progresses. With a significant pipeline of work ahead, we’re ready to support future safety improvement packages as additional funding is progressively released.

We look forward to working closely with stakeholders to ensure the Maryborough to Gin Gin upgrade reflects community needs, environmental priorities, and long-term network performance—reinforcing SMEC’s commitment to shaping sustainable and future-ready infrastructure across Australia and the world.
