SMEC
representatives
acknowledged
by
the
President
of
Zanzibar
SMEC recently joined the launch event to inaugurate the Institute of Architects, Engineers, and Surveyors Zanzibar (IAESZ).

Held on 20th April 2024 the institutes first AGM was officiated by the Zanzibar President Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi.

 

The theme for the event was The Roles of Professional Bodies, ‘Institution Perspectives’ setting out opportunities for professional development and collaboration. Drawing 300 participants, IAESZ members were invited to elect new leaders whilst delegates took the opportunity to network and meet new colleagues.

 

SMEC was represented at the event by Regional Manager, East Africa – Tanzania, Nasser Harrasy, Country Manager – Tanzania, Abdulkher Islam and Senior Highway Engineer Jacob Kiswaga. Nasser Harrasy added,

 

SMEC is very proud to have the opportunity to participate as sponsors of the inaugural AGM for the newly formed Institute of Architects, Engineers, and Surveyors Zanzibar. IAESZ will play a crucial role in developing the engineering profession and advocating best practice outcomes for the Zanzibar community.

Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar visited SMEC’s booth and invited a short presentation which was aired on national TV. SMEC was also acknowledged for its contribution to infrastructure development across Tanzania, undertaking projects such as Dar es Salaam BRT, Rehabilitation of Shinyanga and Sumbawanga regional airports and in particular the Zanzibar Urban Roads improvement.  Zanzibar Urban Roads improvement is currently the largest infrastructure project to have been initiated on Zanzibar, which includes the islands first 2 flyovers, currently under construction.
