Sam Lalli is an Associate Engineer with SMEC’s Melbourne Dams and Hydropower Group. Over more than 12 years with SMEC, he has contributed to a wide range of dams, geotechnical and structural projects across Australia. His experience spans all stages of project delivery — from investigations and concept design through to detailed design, construction supervision, project management, risk assessments and ongoing surveillance and monitoring.
Sam’s recent work has focused on applying advanced numerical modelling to dam safety, including complex finite element analyses that inform design reviews and upgrade works. His expertise in combining technical rigour with practical constructability insights continues to support utilities and regulators in strengthening ageing dam infrastructure for long‑term resilience.
