Hoddle Street Bus Lane Landscape & Urban Design

The proposed Hoddle Street Bus Lane runs along Hoddle Street from the Eastern Freeway to Victoria Parade in Melbourne, with Vic Roads incorporating a variety of landscape and urban design aspects proposed and coordinated with the City of Yarra.

SMEC was appointed by VicRoads and the City of Yarra to explore the potential landscape and urban design opportunities associated with the proposed Hoddle Street Bus Lane Project.

SMEC reviewed all the existing strategies governing the area and developed a series of landscape and urban design aspects which could be delivered as part of the project. These proposals include:

  • Pavements
  • Softscape treatments
  • Furniture
  • Lighting
  • Artwork

The design outcomes focused on the development of interchanging hubs along the length of the route and associated opportunities to express the character of adjacent precincts within the Hoddle Street corridor.
