Reconciliation
takes
action
A recent highlight from our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan was the acknowledgement of National Reconciliation Week, which is an annual week to celebrate Indigenous culture and explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Embracing this year’s theme ‘More than a word- reconciliation takes action’, we endeavoured to take one extra action to bring us another step closer to reconciliation. From learning about our partnership with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation to engaging and creating relationships through our membership with Supply Nation, our National Reconciliation Week activities enabled our employees to connect and continue our reconciliation journey.

Our business is committed to working towards reconciliation throughout the year. With the support of the SMEC Foundation, our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) committee for Australia and New Zealand provides annual funding to employee-nominated charities. These charities aim to help achieve equality in Indigenous communication across education, employment, life expectancy and all other measurable areas of disadvantage.

In 2021 we are pleased to continue our partnerships with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, Engineering Aid AustraliaHope2Day and the Cathy Freeman Foundation. We are also pleased to partner with Deadly Science, which aims to provide STEM resources to remote schools across Australia.

At SMEC we are committed to a vision for reconciliation for Australia to grow as a nation built on trust, understanding and respect. To achieve this vision, we must acknowledge our history and work towards a more equal society. We continue our reconciliation journey through our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan.
