Major work is underway on the long-awaited Marshalls Creek Bridge replacement project, marking the beginning of significant construction works that will deliver a safer, more efficient, and future-ready transport corridor for the Wagga Wagga region.

The first sod was officially turned in August on the upgrade project that will replace the existing two-lane bridge over Marshalls Creek with a four-lane structure, designed to improve road safety for all road users and accommodate growing traffic volumes, including freight movement between Sydney, Mildura, and Adelaide.

Key features of the new 30-metre-long, 23.8-metre-wide bridge also include:

  • A 3-metre-wide shared path for cyclists and pedestrians on the southern side
  • Safety barriers separating road traffic from pedestrians and cyclists.

SMEC delivered the detailed design for the project, applying specialist expertise in bridge engineering, utilities design, and durability and geotechnical analysis. The design approach prioritised safety, sustainability, accessibility, and long-term performance, ensuring a solution that will serve the community well into the future. Transport for NSW has awarded the construction contract to Huon Contractors Pty Ltd.

The Marshall’s Creek Bridge replacement project is a strategic investment in regional NSW, enhancing safety and connectivity while supporting economic growth through improved links between NSW and South Australia.

SMEC is proud to contribute to this important upgrade by delivering a bridge design that reflects the needs of the Wagga Wagga community, strengthens road safety, and supports long-term network performance—reinforcing our commitment to shaping sustainable, future-ready infrastructure across Australia and globally.
