The SMEC Australia Board welcomes a new Director, Kate Drews, effective immediately.

Kate is the Market Director of SMEC’s Urban Communities business, leading a diverse and talented team of over 200 specialists across the country. She is also a member of SMEC Australia’s Executive Committee.

With more than 25 years’ experience in the property, construction and infrastructure sectors, Kate has held several senior leadership roles and is currently a Director on the Board of Consult Australia.

SMEC Australia’s CEO James Phillis welcomed Kate to the Board and recognised the significant contribution she has already made to the Urban Communities business, particularly during the difficult environment brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Kate’s invaluable knowledge and experience are an incredible asset for our Board and organisation,” James said. “During this challenging year, Kate has been an inspiring leader at SMEC, and she is also highly-regarded in our industry. We look forward to welcoming her as a Director.”

Kate said she is honoured to be joining the Board. “I look forward to contributing to SMEC’s strategy and supporting the growth of our talented teams. There are great opportunities in our business through our technical excellence, the way we support our clients and continuing our commitment to diversity and inclusion,” she said.

Kate is a passionate supporter of women in STEM and is a Sponsor in SMEC’s Cultivate program, aimed at assisting female employees to progress into senior and leadership positions.
