SMEC South Africa’s Bloemfontein office has been appointed by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) to provide professional consulting services on the New Mega Schools Project in Free State province, South Africa.

The appointment entails the provision of professional services for the detailed planning and design; procurement assistance and tender documentation; and construction monitoring and close-out for stages 1 – 7 for new mega schools on behalf of the Free State Department of Education.

The schools will be built on new open land spaces which have previously been allocated for institutional zoning. Each school will accommodate between 1,000 – 1,200 learners and will directly benefit the surrounding community by providing closer access and improved education levels.

The New Mega Schools Project will utilise the basic school layouts which SMEC South Africa executed for the previously completed Accelerated Schools Infrastructure Delivery Initiative – a project that was also implemented by the DBSA.
