With construction advancing and the first homes nearing completion, SMEC’s multi-disciplinary team continues to play a key role in delivering a large, multi-precinct community shaped by integrated infrastructure and long-term planning.

Located within the Ripley Valley Priority Development Area (PDA), South Place is a 900-lot development by Moremac that combines long-term growth with liveable, design-led planning. Thoughtfully designed to grow with its community, this masterplanned estate is shaped around three integrated precincts.  Land uses include a future school, a neighbourhood centre, and extensive green spaces which are seamlessly woven into the landscape, creating a well-connected and thoughtfully planned place to live, learn and grow.

As lead consultant since 2022, SMEC has supported the project’s strategic planning and staged delivery, drawing on multidisciplinary expertise across survey, urban design, civil engineering, landscape architecture, town planning and transport planning.

Strategic Foundations for a Lasting Community

South Place is a multi-year vision that requires careful sequencing, clear coordination, and a shared commitment to quality outcomes. SMEC has been involved since the inception of the project, with early construction now well underway in Precinct A, with the first residents expected to move in by mid-2025.

From the outset, SMEC has worked closely with Moremac to design and deliver essential infrastructure.   SMEC’s approach has been founded in cross-disciplinary collaboration and strategic design thinking, ensuring that every stage of the project benefits from the collective expertise of the diverse teams.

Together, we’re working with Moremac to create a community that will grow and develop in a thoughtful and integrated manner. With the first homes nearing completion and residents set to move in later this year, we are excited to continue playing a key role in bringing South Place to life.

By fostering strong communication and coordination across engineering, planning and design disciplines, we’ve been able to integrate insights from each area to create innovative solutions that are both functional and sustainable.  This collaborative mindset has allowed SMEC to anticipate challenges early on, streamline processes, and develop infrastructure that aligns with the long-term vision of the community.

Designing for Place and Unlocking delivery

Planning and delivery has required careful interface management between multiple land developers, state and local government agencies and utility service providers.  SMEC has effectively managed a range of complex constraints and collaborated with a team of external consultants to ensure a seamless project execution.

The seamless integration of urban design and engineering has helped reduce construction costs in Precinct A, while enhancing the quality and long-term value of the broader development.

South Place has been envisioned as a connected, family-focused community. SMEC’s landscape architects, and urban design specialists have worked hand-in-hand with the civil engineers to deliver an integrated network of parks, ecological corridors and drainage reserves- balancing lifestyle amenity with technical functionality. The site’s natural creek corridor will be preserved in its original state, providing a resilient green spine through the heart of the development.
