Delivery of Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport is well underway, and SMEC is pleased to be supporting AeroWest (Seymour Whyte Constructions and BMD Constructions joint venture) as the lead consultant, supported by Northrop and CM+ for the delivery of the landside civil and building works package.

The landside works are integral in connecting the new airport to other transport infrastructure services including the new M12 Motorway and Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport rail link which will provide streamlined and efficient access to the new airport and its on-airport Business Precinct. Scope for the landside package includes the delivery of roads, car parks (including electric vehicle charging stations), bridges and ground transport facilities, operational buildings, landscaping and services.

SMEC’s CEO James Phillis is excited to see the team mobilising “SMEC’s experience is built on delivering nation building projects, and I am excited that we will be further contributing to the transformation and economic future of Western Sydney. Stage 1 alone will have capacity for over 10 million passengers per year creating a vital transport hub for the people of Sydney, Australia and the world. We are looking forward to working closely with AeroWest and Western Sydney Airport to deliver this package.”

The landside civil and building works package was the final major contract to be awarded for construction of Western Sydney International which is on track to open to international, domestic and air cargo services in late 2026.
