as
Independent
Certifier
on
major
Sydney
motorway
SMEC, together with delivery partner APP, have been engaged by Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) to deliver the Independent Certifier services for Stage 1 of Sydney’s M6 motorway.

The AUD $2.52 billion, M6 Stage 1 will connect Sydney’s south to the city’s wider motorway network, providing improved journey times, reducing congestion and removing over 2,000 trucks per day from local streets.

This project will deliver twin four-kilometre underground motorway connections between President Ave, Kogarah and the M8 Motorway, Arncliffe, bypassing up to 23 sets of traffic lights. The project scope also includes mainline tunnels, exit/entry ramps, shared cyclist and pedestrian pathways and tunnel stubs for a planned future Stage 2 of the M6.

The selection of SMEC as the Independent Certifier on this key infrastructure project follows SMEC’s recent involvement in the assurance of major projects in Sydney. Bringing extensive local expertise and experience from several stages of WestConnex (M4 East and the New M8), Sydney Metro City & Southwest Tunnels, Stations and Excavations Package and more recently Sydney Gateway, SMEC has partnered with APP across numerous major assurance projects.

Work will commence in 2022 and is scheduled to be completed in 2025.
