SMEC was engaged to carry out design, procurement support and construction supervision for pavement rehabilitation for the Faleolo Airport Pavement Design and Supervision.

As part of the World Bank-funded Pacific Aviation Investment Program, the project involves designing and supervising pavement rehabilitation construction works for the runway, taxiway and aprons of Samoa’s Faleolo International Airport.

 

In a joint venture with Spanish firm INECO, SMEC led the preparation of tender documents and provided support during procurement and contract negotiation. SMEC also provided technical advice on environmental aspects. As the project progressed to construction, SMEC delivered quality assurance, contract administration and construction supervision services.

 

Objectives of the project are to:

  • Improve the safety, security, efficiency and environmental sustainability of the airport
  • Address pavement strength deficiencies on the runway, aprons and taxiway
  • Improve regional harmonisation of aviation safety standards.
