SMEC is proud to mark the next milestone in the $5.75 billion Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail (LGC) project, with the signing of the Project Alliance Agreement (PAA) as part of the ActivUs Alliance.

The Alliance includes the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Queensland Rail and ActivUs, which is comprised of CPB Contractors, ACCIONA, UGL, SMEC, and WSP. The PAA establishes a collaborative, integrated delivery model tailored to the project’s unique challenges.

 

The signing of the PAA formalises the partnership between all Alliance members, setting the framework for the project, and enabling the Alliance to transition from planning into execution with a clear commitment to delivering innovative, high-quality outcomes for Queensland.

 

This transformational project will enhance connectivity and meet the growing travel demand between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Australia’s third and sixth largest cities.

 

The project delivers significant upgrades between Kuraby and Beenleigh, including doubling the tracks from two to four, modern and accessible station upgrades, removing level crossings, improved park ‘n’ ride facilities and walking and cycling connections to stations along the 20 km of upgraded tracks.

 

Jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments, on a 50:50 basis, the LGC project is a vital component of Queensland’s transport future, ensuring the region is prepared not only for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, but also the long-term growth along this corridor.

 

With the PAA now in place, the ActivUs Alliance will progress the design of station precincts, the rail corridor, and supporting infrastructure. This milestone represents a significant step forward in delivering faster, more reliable transport solutions for Queenslanders.

Site establishment activities and early works are planned to commence in the first half of 2026, ahead of major construction works starting later next year.
