Using innovative irrigation technologies to increase the production of high value commodities, the Gabiro project aims to set up a modern hub of both intensive agriculture and animal resource husbandry.
In supervising construction of the project, SMEC will assess works for compliance with agreed designs and material quantities, and ensure the works meet quality standards.
Covering an area of 5,600 hectares, the Phase 1 works focus on irrigation infrastructure; road networks within the scheme; electrical powerlines; housing for resettled families, and agriculture and livestock training and demonstration farms that promote modern techniques and innovative technologies.
Once complete, the Gabiro Agri-Business Hub is set to attract private investment in the agriculture sector, while helping to transform community livelihoods through improved food security, increased incomes, and exports.
