Warralily
SMEC played a key role in Warralily development, since its commencement, providing civil engineering, surveying, town planning, and urban design services for the development of the 15,000+ resident community.

Warralily is a master-planned community located on a 380-hectare site within the Armstrong Creek East Precinct Structure Plan area. Armstrong Creek is the focal point of the development with an extensive shared path network connecting homes, community, education, recreation, employment, and retail precincts along the creek corridor. Challenges that the Armstrong Creek Development Corporation faced during the development of Warralily was the increasing demand for affordable residential space in the area and the prediction of population growth in the coming years.

Design services

To overcome the challenges concerning increasing residential demand and population growth, SMEC provided design services to the development, assisting in the creation of a 15,000+ residential community located in the Geelong region.

A collaborative and integrated design approach

SMEC played a key role in Warralily since its commencement, providing civil engineering, surveying, town planning, and urban design services for the development of the 15,000+ resident community. The focus was on a fully collaborative and integrated design approach to achieve a series of site-responsive masterplans to protect the existing native vegetation and provide conservation areas for community enjoyment.

SMEC’s successful coordination of the various local authorities and agencies ensured the key infrastructure assets and services were delivered on time and provided great benefit to the local community. In partnership with Barwon Water substantial investments into the sewer, water, and recycled water assets have been made. A significant linear wetland system along the Armstrong Creek corridor has also been delivered in partnership with City of Greater Geelong, using best practice integrated water management to cater to urban and overland stormwater flows in the area. SMEC ensured that the focus of the Warralily residential community was to be a sustainable and walkable neighbourhood. These two critical features were prioritised in the design vision which results in an overall design, maximising the legibility, safety, and access to amenities. Warralily provides the perfect balance of open spaces and parklands with almost a quarter of the estate dedicated to recreation uses and the environment with easy access to modern conveniences and facilities.
