Why did you choose SMEC? 

As the President of the Monash Uni Student Transport Industry Association, I had the opportunity to interact with various industry partners and agencies. It was during this time that I encountered SMEC, recognised for its technical excellence and innovation within the industry. I applied for an undergraduate role and joined SMEC in 2022. Despite my initial lack of industry knowledge and experience, the team provided invaluable support, fostering my learning and growth. I also liked the flexibility SMEC allowed for with my university schedule, especially during my busy final year of university. 

What do you enjoy most about the graduate program at SMEC? 

I really enjoy the chance to meet and network with other graduates from SMEC across all discipline streams, as well as the learning opportunities presented through mentoring programs. The Graduate Development Program has allowed for a smoother transition from the undergraduate life to the graduate life, giving more of an insight into what the future holds for me 

What has surprised you about your time at SMEC so far? 

As a graduate, I’ve had the privilege of accessing diverse learning opportunities spanning various aspects including technical skills, project management, and more. I have been able to grow my skillset to handle and deliver design tasks through the opportunities that I have been presented with. To be given the chance to manage my own work and help deliver deadlines is not something I was expecting as a graduate, but learning to take responsibility has helped me learn to manage my time. SMEC has a very friendly work culture which makes working much easier and less stressful.   

At this stage, where do you think your SMEC adventure is going to take you? 

I’m still navigating my path on this SMEC adventure, eagerly embracing every opportunity to broaden my knowledge, enhance my skills, and explore new avenues, particularly at this early stage of my career. I’m excited to see where this journey leads me and eager to seize every opportunity that comes my way. 

What advice would you offer to other graduates?  

Never be afraid to try something new, it is important to learn to be comfortable with the idea of being uncomfortable.
